Uses carefully selected viscoelastic 100% synthetic base oil, with appropriately balanced White Ester and organic molybdenum for greater durability. White Ester consists of nonpolar groups that blend readily with oil and polar groups that adhere readily to metal. At any engine speed, it enters between the metal and oil inside the engine to act as a cushion, reducing metal-to-metal contact, protecting surfaces and lowering friction. Organic molybdenum is an oil-soluble friction modifier with a very strong friction-reducing effect. Its properties are most effective where lubrication and wear-reduction conditions are demanding and metal-to-metal contact is more likely. At high temperatures, viscosity falls and the friction coefficient rises; this additive helps compensate. The combined effects of the viscoelastic base oil and these 2 compounds ensure sufficient lubrication and reduced friction even when viscosity drops at high temperatures, a disadvantage for low-viscosity oils, retaining performance capable of withstanding sporting driving. This API SP GRADE engine oil appropriately balances calcium-based detergent additives, which can cause LSPI (low-speed pre-ignition), with magnesium-based additives that inhibit it.
